Are you surprised that the “in” thing today is the manifest presentation of one’s POWER approach to life? I mean, there is the power lunch, the power hairdo, the power car, the power office, the power look, the power whatever—you recognize what I am saying. One must demo power in order to be seen as one in the flow.

Jesus had more power than any person ever to walk this planet, but he never showed off with it. In fact, no one would have known it was there unless there had been a pressing need for its demonstration at all. Remember when he spoke to the wind and waves on the Sea of Galilee? The disciples just wanted him to share their misery, but he fixed it so they had to row the boat all the way to shore.

Our Lord is not telling us that we need to manifest power in order to be accepted by him. He still uses his power to make it possible for us to relax in him. Listen to Saint Paul in Romans 15.13: ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ Jesus is really into joy and peace and trust and hope.

When it comes to demonstrating power for the Christian, it is simply a matter of relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish the miracles needed for our lives. We don’t have any power of our own! But we do have the power of God fully available to us for the meeting of the needs of those whom we serve. WE ARE NOT POWER PEOPLE; WE ARE EMPOWERED PEOPLE!
