I have said over and over again in these Snacks and almost everywhere else that I find it much easier to call upon the Lord Jesus today than ever before. This is more than just a habit I’ve developed—it’s a vital necessity for my walk of faith. I believe this is what God wants from each of his children—a desperate need for his involvement in their lives.

I find myself seeking the Lord’s presence, his counsel, his protection, his_____ [you fill in the blank]. I just want his input in everything. I cry out to him in pain, in joy, in need, in fear, in excitement—the space is yours to fill in again. I used to view this need for God as a weakness, but now I know it to be a strength in me.

King David understood this as he shares in Psalm 34.4: ‘I sought the LORD, and he answered me, he delivered me from all my fears.’ When we call upon the Lord it is never like shouting into a dead phone with no expectation of ever hearing a response. Our Lord is ever eager to respond to our crying out for him.

There are times, of course, when we simply would rather not hear any answer at all—because we ask amiss. On those occasions, if one does not really want to hear the truth, it is truly better not to ask. The difference is found in a heart’s desire to hear from God that we may obey. Therein we are delivered—from us!
