Words about miraculous events spread like wildfire throughout the Church. We usually get excited about each of those words, and wonder what it would be like to experience a miracle in our own lives. Generally we treat the miraculous as if the rarest of gems, but I believe they are much more common than we realize.

We read in Scripture that when Solomon reigned as King of Israel silver was so common it was like stones in the street. Saint John relates a similar sense about miracles in 20.30-31: ‘Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.’ We can only imagine what these signs might have been at his hands.

I believe that as we walk more closely with Jesus through the days of our faith lives we begin to see the miraculous hand of Jesus almost everywhere we look. A miracle is defined as something outside the realm of normalcy in the human life. Therefore, for the believer, every shift from the normal run-of-things can be seen as if a miracle of the Lord’s making—for the blessing of our lives.

John has a concluding thought about the miracles of Jesus: ‘but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.’ As a believer, I have come to expect God to move on my behalf. Others may see the miraculous in these, but I believe this is normal Christian living. I AM A BELIEVER IN MIRACLES!
