It is a startling thing to realize that one of the most horrendous events in all of human history occurred immediately after the Holy Eucharist. Read about this in John 13.27-30: As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. How is that possible? Isn’t there something holy and undefilable about the Mass?

It gets more bazaar to us as we continue reading about that evening in the Upper Room: ‘What you are about to do, do quickly,’ Jesus told him, but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. Jesus knew about all of this, and he facilitated the entire thing. He never demanded Judas to repent!

And what of the rest of those in that sacred gathering; what were they doing? It’s like they missed the point of the entire event. They were watching through the eyes of their flesh: Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor. Jesus has even spoken to John about a betrayal.

Listen to the summary of that scene again: As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. Judas received the Sacrament from the Lord of all before he left him. Did he receive what Jesus offered? I believe he got only a piece of bread, for he went out into the night. I cannot see the light if I do not see Jesus in the Sacrament. It is always night without him. PERCEIVE HIM!
