As I look back over my life I find myself having followed a set pattern of response to every single new idea. What seems to be my natural response is that of “We’ll see!” If enough evidence piled up for the new idea as presented, then I would consider accepting that idea as a viable fact for my own life. I would then study the materials available, try on the product as it were, and perhaps buy into it.

There has been a most distressing aspect of this very sensible approach to new things and ideas. If I finally adopted the new position I realized that I had wasted a terrible amount of time in the search process. I have come to learn to rely on the word of those whom I trust about new things and ideas. This is a better plan.

The Prophet Elijah had a very good record of success in proclaiming what God had said—the word of the Lord, but the people did not always respond quickly enough. Read 1 Kings 18.21: Elijah went before the people and said, ‘How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.’ But the people said nothing.

I have come to the decision that it just doesn’t matter what God presents to me—I am grabbing hold of it! It may appear to be totally off the wall; it may sound as if it’s absurd; it may look like a dreadful mistake; it may seem to cost me everything —IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER ANY MORE—I AM FOLLOWING GOD!
