One of the most important things we can do in our walk of faith is to learn how to hear the voice of God. We are taught in life to be prepared for whatever may come, but often that warning is based in a need to be afraid or fearful. Notice this truth: if you are afraid, you have not heard the voice of the Lord.

Saint Paul was concerned for his health and well-being as he was involved in the mission work to which he had been clearly called. What happened to him is related in Acts 18.9-11: One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.’ In hearing the Lord and being obedient to his call, the church was strongly established.

The Lord’s assurance continues: ‘for I am with you and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.’ What a word to hear at that moment! He needed to know that he was not alone in this work of the Lord. Remember when God told Elijah that he had seven thousand others who were faithful to him—Elijah had thought he was all alone in faithful service!

This word concludes: So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God. Success! Beloved, it is imperative to hear God in those times we question whether or not we are on the right path. If the Lord says to stand—do stand! Know that he is protecting you from all those who don’t like for God to win. Not only are you not alone, you are protected by all of the Kingdom of God!
