Don’t you just love to watch the face of that special person light up when receiving an unexpected gift? I love to be on the watching end of that transaction. To see a blessing manifest in the life of another is a precious gift in and of itself. I am not nearly as good at receiving a gift as I am in giving a gift, however. My natural response is, “Why me?”

Most of us have a sense of not being worth special favor as we walk through this life. That attitude has done serious damage to living within the reality of the Kingdom of God on earth. The apostle speaks of that reality in John 1.16-17: ‘From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.’ Can we come to grips with it?

As we surrender ourselves to the headship of Jesus Christ, the entire arena of our lives shifts into a far higher level of life, and that has nothing whatsoever to do with deserving that. In Jesus we cannot avoid receiving one blessing after another! The blessings of God upon his people have never changed, but the focus of his blessings has changed.

John’s word continues: ‘For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.’ Under the first Covenant God gave Israel the path to walk into his blessings. Under the New Covenant the only manner of blessing is Jesus. What that means to us today is simple: the only way to get out of the blessings of God is to reject Jesus as Lord. My heart is set not to do that! I WILL CHOOSE TO BE BLESSED!
