We are going to have to come to grips with the reality that God has a different view of things than do we. This is a truth which is reflected in a far wider spectrum than we ever imagined as true. It somehow gives us a level of comfort to think we really understand more about some things than God has time to care about. He will always surprise us!

Most often we tend to view things in terms of multiplication, i.e., more than or less than. In matters of faith we recognize that some do more in terms of ministry than do others. We read of this perception in Luke 21.1-4: As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. Jesus, too, is aware of more and or less of a response.

But the Lord sheds light on the heavenly perception as the word continues: ‘I tell you the truth,’ he said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.’ This is a far different perception than that of the apostles with him. The rich certainly gave more than the poor here—it’s obvious. The work of God can go forth.

Father God views the matter differently than the more or less principle known to us. His perception is clearly much simpler—it’s all or nothing at all! Where we begin at the result of the action, Jesus begins with the initiation of the action. How could the widow give more? She gave with all of her heart—nothing held back. The rich gave of their wealth, reserving control over everything else. She gave everything—TRUSTING GOD!
