Peace has been identified as a state without war, and although that is true on its face, it is not so in the sense of life in the Spirit of God. If we are waiting for war to cease in order that we may know peace, we have a long wait ahead of us. Quite simply, there will never be a time when the enemies of God are not at war.

For the Christian, the state of being at peace is that of having a serenity of spirit in the midst of the war. Saint Paul is instructing believers in the Christian lifestyle in 2 Corinthians 13.11-14: ‘Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.’ The peace of Christ is established in the believer’s will.

Moreover, these believers are instructed further in their adaptation of relationship with others in the faith family, as Paul continues: ‘Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints send their greetings.’ The holy kiss is the kiss of peace for those of us who follow Christ, and all of the saints of God join in that greeting.

When we set our wills, our hearts, our minds, and our lives to live with each other in the Lord’s peace, the Holy Trinity joins us in that life, as Paul concludes: ‘May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.’ BE ONE WHO LIVES IN GOD’S PEACE!
