Jesus speaks of the purpose of his coming as his desire for us to have an abundant life, and having it abundantly. Two things face us in this teaching: first, we need to know what God really understands by this abundance, and second, we need to know the true value of having that abundance available to us through God’s hand.

Listen as Saint Paul uses the superlative of God’s flooding us with his precious gift of abundance in 2 Corinthians 9.8-9: ‘And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.’ Did you get the gist of this?

God’s desire is to cover us up with his abundance. Note the flourish of the word “all” here; all grace, all abundant, all things, all times, all needs, and every good work. Is there anything that is omitted when the word all is used? I think not! Do consider this—THE TRUE MEANING OF ALL IS: ALL!

Paul concludes: ‘As it is written: He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’ We are among the poorest of the poor when it comes to all things spiritual. And our relationship with God has been cemented to God’s purpose for our lives—to abound in all the things of God!
