Is there anything more frustrating than calling after children and being ignored? I get unnerved when my calling out has to reach a volume which can be heard in the next neighborhood, but not heard at all in the very next room. I remember growing up as a child where the threat of death hung over every command of our parents—if we did not at least respond.

I do not want you to assume that I was abused under any circumstance, but to identify a problem we often face in life—but never in relationship with our God. It is refreshing to hear our Lord speak through his prophet in Jeremiah 33.3: ‘Call to me and I will answer you.’ God will never just let us yell without a response.

In whatever situation we find a need to call out to God, his promise is that he will respond. We do run into some trouble if we insist on a particular response however. God is not a genie upon whom we make demands and he must do as we have instructed him. OUR GOD IS GOD! He will respond as we need him to respond.

But his promise goes father than we could even imagine, as Jeremiah concludes: ‘and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ When we call upon God, he will not only respond to our call as we need for him to respond to meet our need, but he will share with us the secrets of the Kingdom of God, too! What a deal! Nothing will prevent me from calling upon my Lord. NOTHING!
