Allow me to refer you back to Snack #660 where we looked at the power of God, and how surprised all of us are going to be when God fully reveals his power in our very presence. Well, the prophet Malachi joins with Habakkuk in shedding some light on that in 4.1: ‘Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace.’ This does not sound too good, does it?

What is that all about? I mean, we know the Day of the Lord is always on the horizon, but a furnace? I think of the account in the book of the Prophet Daniel of the three Hebrew children being thrown into the fiery furnace where it worked out well for them, but several others were fried. Why should we look forward to that?

Malachi concludes his thought: ‘All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘Not a root or a branch will be left to them.’ Oh, it’s the ugly, bad guys who get torched, and they will be completely removed from the Lord’s own presence and from ours as well. And believers get warmed up in the process.

Many people do not mind the image of God as loving and kind, but they have a very negative reaction to the God of Justice. One will truly reap what one sows—the bible is filled with examples of that truth. Whatever you want out of life—sow that into the fertile ground around you! The God of Justice whom we worship has a high regard for those who allow him to be Lord. LET’S HUMBLE OURSELVES IN HIS SIGHT!
