One of those characteristics theologians believe and declare about God is that he is truly omnipresent. What that actually means is that our God is everywhere at all times. That simply means we will never be able to get away from him or to be out of his presence. Now this is almost impossible for us to grasp with our very limited minds.

We could say that God’s presence is rather like the air we breathe, although there are some places where the air is rare indeed, but God is there as well. We could say that God’s presence is like the light, but there are places where light never goes—and yet God is there as well. How are we to conceive omnipresence? Can we understand it?

Some have said that God is obviously a part of everything, and therefore his presence is wherever anything is to be found. Some cultures have declared that all of that “stuff” of God IS GOD! I am not willing to go there. We learn something of this phenomenon from King Solomon in Proverbs 15.29: The Lord is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. Does that in and of itself make sense of omnipresence?

Allow me to state that the theological doctrine of the omnipresence of God has more to do with having a relationship than with the grasping of a truth. I cannot change the truth that God is everywhere at all times. But I can only know his presence with me when I am willing for him to be there! If I do not desire his presence, it is as if he is not there at all. I CHOOSE TO BE NEAR TO GOD AT ALL TIMES FOREVER!
