One of those things we learn as a very small child is what it takes to be accepted by our peers. There is almost nothing which will successfully stand in the way of one being included in this or that club. Unless this bondage is broken in us by the time we reach maturity there is a serious claim for testing for some sort of mental illness.

Even in the Church there is a hard press for everyone to go along to get along with others at one level of leadership or another. How many times I have been told to not make waves, or to be less conspicuous in what I said or did so that others would not be offended by what I said or did in their presence. I seriously had a stated plan to blow at least one mind every day. I was serious trouble for some folk.

That is the situation of which we find written in 1 Kings 22.13-14. The visiting king asked if there was a true prophet of God who could counsel them about going to war: The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, ‘Look, as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.’

They wanted Micaiah to go along with everyone else and speak only good words of success to the King of Israel. This prophet responded: ‘As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what the LORD tells me.’ In a word, NO WAY! He would speak God’s truth regardless of whether the King liked it or not, even if every single prophet was yet predicting success. Micaiah would be faithful to the Word of God—and he was, and he was right, and the King died in battle. BE FAITHFUL TO THE WORD OF GOD!
