We read of many in Scripture whose hearts were set to seek the Lord, one of whom clearly was Solomon, son of David, as we read in 2 Chronicles 1.7-12. God was willing to give him anything for which he asked as the new King of Israel: wealth, power, honor, success, long life—that is just the way God is with those who are faithful to him.

Solomon asked for none of those things, but for sufficient wisdom to govern the people of God wisely and well. God was very well pleased with this request, and granted that petition for wisdom. But God went way beyond that desire—giving Solomon everything for which he did not ask as well. THIS IS A GOD ONE CAN LOVE AND SERVE!

We now read God’s word to this young king: ‘Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king.’ What is going to happen now?

It is certainly not difficult to see how pleased God was with this young lad, as the Lord continues: ‘therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.’ Notice that Solomon did not ask for an elevated I.Q., but for enough wisdom just to do it right. He got it, and everything else, too! Let’s set our hearts to receive God’s wisdom for the living out of our own lives. YES!
