We have often stated that it is important that we call upon our God at all times, and his promise is to hear us, and to respond to our cry. It seems to be much easier to cry out to the living God when we are celebrating his awesome presence—and he does honor that celebration in us. But what about those other times we experience in life?

It is more difficult to call upon God in those times when we feel least able to celebrate his presence—times of need, misery and pain. His promise to hear us is still valid, however, as we read in 2 Samuel 22.7: ‘In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.’ God hears every word we speak in his direction.

But knowing that he hears seems to do little in answering our deepest need at any given time. I mean, it’s nice to know that God hears me, but so what? The truth of the matter is this: God not only hears, he moves heaven and earth to meet our personal need the instant our cry comes into his presence.

I do not believe for a second that he is just sympathetic to our cries—not at all! His investment in us goes much deeper than that, for he does not want for us to just feel better—he desires for us to know better! His response to our cry has to do with reality: we don’t just feel better—we are much more secure in that he has invested himself in our lives in such a way as to change reality as we know it. He wants us to cry out that we might know him, and rest in him. YES! CRY OUT!
